„Mind the Gap“
Egal, ob ihr in die Stadt vom Norden, Süden, Westen oder Osten, mit einem Auto, Zug oder Bus einreist, versäumt keine Chance den  Londoner Underground zu erleben. Das ist die beste und schnellste Möglichkeit von A nach B in der Millionen-Stadt zu kommen. Obwohl TfL (Transport for London) die Fahrplanauskünfte online zur Verfügung stellt, kommen die oberirdischen Verkehrsmittel besonders in den Rush Hours mit Verspätungen an.

Portobello Road und Notting Hill

- You like Chagall?

Wer kennt nicht diesen Dialog über das berühmte Gemälde von Mark Chagall aus dem romantischen Film „Notting Hill“. Die Liebesgeschichte der Hauptdarsteller William (Hugh Grant) and Anna (Julia Roberts) hat in einem Book Shop auf der Portobello Road, die anderthalb Kilometer vom Süden nach Norden quer durch den Londoner Stadtteil „Notting Hill“ zieht, angefangen. Jeden Samstag lockt der „Portobello Road Market“, dessen Verkaufsstände bis zur Tube station „Notting Hill Gate“ aufgestellt sind, zahlreiche Besucher und bietet diverse Verkaufsartikel von Second-hand-Bekleidung bis Antiquitäten.  (Tipp von Jana Gottermeyer, Buchungszentrale)

Weitere Möglichkeit das Geld für Shopping auszugeben, schlägt Marie-Theres Gerosch aus der Produktionsabteilung vor. Die Shopaholicer und Mode-Liebhaber, die die erste europäische Filiale von der amerikanischen Modemarke Abercrombie & Fitch nahe der Regent Street besuchen, finden bestimmt ein schönes Geschenk aus London für sich und ihre Freunde.

Camden Town
Camden Town ist der nordwestlichste Stadtteil Londons, der für seinen Camden street market bekannt ist. Der Markt richtet sich auf die Liebhaber alternativer Kulturen und internationaler Spezialitäten. Am Eingang zum  “Stables Market” trifft die Besucher eine Pferdeskulptur. Sie weist darauf hin, dass das Gebäude ein umgebauter Pferdestall und –hospital ist. Die Pferde, die in diesem Pferdestall zum Einsatz vorbereitet wurden, haben die Lieferwagen den Kanal entlang transportiert. Beim Stables Market sind Antiquitäten des 20. Jahrhunderts wie Bekleidung, Möbel, ethnische Einrichtungsgegenstände, zu erwerben (Tipp von Maik Staschke, Buslogistik)

Thames-Spaziergang
Beim schönen Wetter gibt’s nichts Besseres zu tun, als einen aufschlussreichen Spaziergang den Fluss Thames entlang  zu unternehmen (Tipp von Nina Riede, Buchungszentrale).

Am besten startet ihr am südlichen Ufer direkt am Riesenrad „London Eye“ und geht Richtung Osten. Nach 30-minütigem Spaziergang wird am Ufer eine weiße Konstruktion mit gefächerter Fassade erscheinen. Das ist das Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, das seine Türen erst 1997 nach der Rekonstruktion geöffnet hat. Es führt die Stücke des berühmten Sohnes Englands William Shakespeare auf. Sogar die Namen der Gründer der bremer shakespeare company stehen auf den Sponsoren-Pflastersteinen auf dem Außenhof des Theaters. Sie beteiligten sich an der Initiative für den Wiederaufbau des Theaters Englands, das in Shakespeare´s Globe umgewandelt wurde (Tipp von Peter Rohlfs, Marketing).

Den Fluß Thames überqueren mehrere Brücken. Die meisten Touristen verwechseln permanent zwei nebeneinander stehende Brücken – London Bridge und Tower Brigde. Die Tower Brigde ist die Lieblingsattraktion von Jasmin Moys aus der Buchungszentrale. Die blaue Klappbrücke diente im 19. Jahrhundert als Kerker. Jetzt befinden sich in den Türmen ein Museum und ein Aussichtsplattform mit dem Blick auf den Business-Bezirk Londons und den Fluss Thames.

Das Offaehrte-Team wünscht der Bevölkerung Englands Frieden und freut sich sehr auf baldiges Wiedersehen mit der Hauptstadt und deren Bürgern.

After thinking about where to go on a language course over and                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               over again, we finally decided to spend three weeks in Bournemouth, being convinced by the short distance to London, the mild climate and the direct location to the Atlantic Ocean.
With two members of the IP Crew, Urenna and Cynthia, already waiting for us, we were really nice welcomed after the long bus journey. Then we were brought to our accommodation, Cranborne House, where we had a few hours time to relax.
Before we went on a guided town walk, we had an introduction and a summary of the daily activity programme, e.g. nail-painting, Henna Tattoo, Beach BBQ and basketball.

On our first school day we had to do a short multiple choice test, which helped to divide the students into different classes.
In class we improved our English with different types of exercises and games, which was quite interesting because of the internationality of our course.

In the evening we went to the IP Welcome Party, which took place every Monday with a different theme, like Black & White, Pyjama or Horror Party, to welcome the new arrivals. Without the great IP Crew, led by Anett, it would have been impossible to have fun.

Besides several activities in Bournemouth like swimming in the sea, shopping, enjoying the weekly display of fireworks, flying with the Bournemouth Observation Balloon and not to forget the huge IP programme, there is also a multitude of full- and half day trips you can go on, like Winchester, Salisbury, the Jurassic Coast, Bath, Brighton and of course London. For London there is a special offer called London Overnight.

So we left Bournemouth early in the morning and when we arrived in Britain’s capital we had a guided tour where we saw all the well-known sights like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliaments.
After six hours of shopping we met up at Covent Garden for dinner, then we had a look at the Tower Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral at night and finally arrived at our hostel.
In order to avoid a long waiting time to enter London Dungeon, we left our hostel early in the morning. After 1½ hours of fears and horror we decided to go to Westfield Shopping Centre by Underground.
With this incredible weekend ending, we knew that we would have to visit London again next Saturday.

But before visiting Britain’s capital once more, we had another week full of fun, especially with the Air Festival taking place at the beach. Watching crazy air stunts with people standing on planes, we and about 2 million other people enjoyed this four days full of action.
The Firework World Record Attempt was another highlight of our three weeks.

Visiting Madame Tussaud’s , National Gallery and further shopping areas, we spent another beautiful Saturday in London.
The following week we visited the Jurassic Coast, which impressed us with its amazing scenery and Durdle Door, a natural window in the cliffs.
Before our departure we had an incredible flight on the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered balloon from which you can get an overview of the whole town.

Our time here was really great. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed our holidays!

After the tour, the soccer group also had some free time in London. The overnight group stayed in a very comfortable hostel and on Sunday morning when we woke up, there was awesome weather with blue sky and sun all over. The perfect start for another day in London at which we explored all the missing tourist attractions we did not make on Saturday. We covered the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, etc.
It was so much fun and the student really liked it. We took the red busses and the tube to get from A to B, had lunch in the Hide Park and after all there where some free time again. The group was really good and at the end, everybody found the place we agreed to meet before we drove back to Teignmouth.

But besides big cities there are lots of beautiful, romantic, small towns (e. g. Salisbury or Winchester) with traditional British houses and old cathedrals, which represent British life  in the olden days and which have still kept the charm from centuries ago.

The third characteristic feature of England which you should not miss is the beautiful, wide landscape with its wild coasts, the hills, cows and sheep, long beaches, wide green fields, and many other attractions.
Therefore, whatever kind of trip you choose…you will not regret and never forget it!

I LOVE EXETER!!!

My best holidays I’ve ever had were from the 4th till the 20th of July which I spend at St.Luke’s Campus at Exeter, which is one of the most beautiful towns in southern England.

Our Campus was great, a mix of modern and old buildings….I liked my room, it was very handy, and there are so much good things to say about that location. The only thing i didn’t like was the food, but we all survived, or not??!
I spend this holidays with many cool teens from Germany and Italy, and, of course, our great IP-team which came from all around the world! Together we had a funny, relaxing time and I enjoyed our programs in the evening, like the movie-nights, game-nights or our hawaiian party.

And what’s about English?? Yea, of course we practized English almost every day in classes up to 15 people, mixed with Germans and Iitalians, and the teachers were great, they had sense of humor and were very human…the loveliest teachers i know! ?

In the afternoon we could choose between specific workshops, sport activities or we could create our free time ourselves…..so we often went into town to shopping oh, did I already say that Exeter is the shopping-paradise of southern England??
Especially we girls loved shopping, we spend a lot of time in town. There are soo many shopping-malls!

The highlights of the week were the trips to different places…we had a fantastic mix to choose from!

DARTMOOR

My first trip went to Dartmoor-Nationalpark – beautiful green landscapes with many rocks and dartmoor-ponys – where we climbed at first on some high rocks and after that we visited the small village Wiscomb-in-Dartmoor, which is an very old village of grey houses built with huge stones and an eerily (gothic?), very old cemetery with a small church.

LONDON

Then, at a nice, warm Saturday, I visited London!!! Our trip-group was lucky – can you imagine, it didn’t rain!! I always thought London is a city where it’s raining all the time…^^
At first we had a sightseeing tour through London, we could see all famous buildings the city is famous for, what a great feeling!

After the awesome Sightseeing-Tour we could spent our free-time in London the way we wanted – in groups of min. 3 students. Lara, Johannes and me went to Covent Garden, Picadilly Circus, China-Town and many other places. It was great!!

During my stay there, I met a lot of young people from other European countries and some of them became my friends. And still stay in contact with them, I chat with them on the internet and write letters to them.

I think, the best part of my holiday were the trips to London and to Portsmouth. In London, we saw the Londen Eye, the Big Ben, and lots of other things and in Portsmouth, we saw the ships Mary Rose, HMS Victory and the HMS Warrior.

But it was also great on the campus, where we had a good time together especially in the evenings after our program. We all met outside in the yard, often singing together, joking and playing games.

I believe, that when you go to Chichester, you will also have lot`s of fun and you will meet new friends.
Chichester was on oft the best times in my life, however take care not to fall in love with somebody.

And when you `re there you have to go to iceland. It`s a creal cool supermarket.

I lived on the Campus with many other Germans, but also a lot of Italians. They were all very nice and also our IP CREW was really nice and you could have a lot of fun with them =)
So we all became friends, and not only the Germans… NO also the Germans and Italians.
But I think this all won’t happend, if the CREW wasn’t so nice… they were 9 young people from different countries, like Spain, France, Germany, America, the Netherlands and GB.. so i think very international =)
We had a lot of fun e.g. on the trips or the different workshops.
Our day was I think really okay, and before I came to Exeter I thought, it would be horrible to have English lessons on holiday, but when I was in Exeter, I thought, it is okay, because the lessons are only in the morning and in the afternoon we had freetime, workshops, sport activities or trips.
I used these opportunities. So I went Exmouth, Torquay or London. And I also had great workshops, e.g. a theater workshop where we practised ”Hansel&Gretel” for our Open Stage or the breathtaking ”GUT DRAUF-Workshop” =) ahh we loved it =)
So all in all I can say I loved this two weeks, because I got many new friends and I made many new experiences and i also think these 2 weeks were the best holidays of my life and I think it wasn’t the first and the last time i went on holidays with IP =)
