On Thursday afternoon we had the knight games where we learned how to shoot with a bow and an arrow or could fight man versus man with foam tubes. In the evening our host Günter took us on a tour of one of the towers of castle Schönburg. He took us up an old watchtower while telling us the story of the long dead Elizabeth. Günter’s talent in story-telling and the scary atmosphere within the tower made even the oldest of the group shudder.

Last but certainly not least the IP Open Stage Party on Friday night was a lot of fun. The kids impressed each other with unique magic tricks, a wrestling show and much more. In the end almost everyone performed something on stage with the occasional help of some of the teamers.
The Goodbye on Saturday was very sad and some of the kids didn’t want to go home.
We hope all of them enjoyed their week in Oberwesel and five of them even stayed for the second week.

First up this time were the Lions with their play entitled “One Day in Chichester”. Their dramatic act left the IP Activity Team open-mouthed, glad that no such occurrences had actually befallen the students or staff at our centre! The thrilling plot involved some seriously shocking happenings, opening with the sudden death of some IP students in the refectory! Luckily, however, not even this was enough to stop life at the centre continuing as usual: the remaining students decided “Oh well, let’s go to lunch now!” It was then that the bloody knife was found in the staffroom. Naturally, a teacher was arrested. Then came the twist! Yet another victim – and that with the “murderer” already locked up! The conclusion? Somewhere, be it in Oaklands or the Accommodation Office, the library or the warden’s office, a murderer is still on the loose.  *cue scary music…*
The Penguins’ rendition of “All the Small Things” reintroduced infectious smiles to the stage. They sang with much gusto, not even put off by the technological problems that caused the music for their song to be interrupted and jokingly declared that the DJ should be thrown out!
These opening acts really set the mood for the evening. All of our students were extremely enthusiastic, both about their own acts and those of their peers. This allowed for the creation of a relaxed, appreciative atmosphere that helped even the quietest of students to step on stage with confidence and really show their talent.
A number of popular choices in dance and song had the audience clapping, dancing, singing and laughing uncontrollably in their seats. All the old favourites were featured, such as “YMCA, “We Will Rock You”, the Macarena and, of course, our very own IP dance alongside some rather more unusual choices, such as the Penguins’ dance to “Ein Lama in Yokohama”! In many acts, improvisation ruled, leading to significant confusion but also plenty of laughter!

The other plays that were performed on the night, the work of the Penguins, Hedgehogs and Snails, were a mixture of martial arts, silent films and fairy tales. Kitted out with their I Love London The mysterious ninja Snails kidnapped fought bodyguards to get to a princess. The Penguins and Hedgehogs decided to base their work on fairy tales, choosing Snow White and Cinderella respectively. The Hedgehogs’ take on Cinderella could not have been more modern – Cinderella fell in love with Prince Charming, only to discover he and the Fairy Godmother (played by another boy) are an item! The wonderful kiss at the very end of the play got a number of wolf whistles from the audience!

All of the groups’ artistic masterpieces – a giant cardboard ship, swords, gold, pirate faces, parrots, treasure maps and even “pirate love letters” – will be part of the decorations for next week’s Pirates of Chichester party.
Our students never fail to impress us with their creativity and fun-loving natures and this always shines through on Open Stage night; this week was definitely no exception!

On Tuesday, some of the students went on a trip to Winchester. Once again, we were very lucky with the weather. In their spare time, the students were able to go inside the Cathedral, go shopping, and visit the other sites. For the IP staff, we enjoyed a relaxing drink (non-alcoholic of course) in the park!

Our highlight on Wednesday was the Open Stage. The students, and even the teachers (!), got together to provide us with an evening of entertainment, in which they showcased their talents. This included juggling, playing the piano, and singing.

The afternoon workshop on Thursday was another huge success, as the kids all enjoyed the opportunity to design and decorate their own T-shirt. Using ‘I love Bournemouth’ templates, fabric paints, pens, and glitter, the students all demonstrated their creativity. Since the Spanish were all leaving the next day (after having been here for 4 weeks), they also signed their names and left heart-warming messages on everyone’s T-shirts. It was so emotional that a few tears were even shed by the students. Many didn’t want to leave – even when the workshop ended! As for the IP staff, we were also very sad to see the Spanish Group Leader, Juan, leave. From all of us at the Bournemouth Centre, we will miss you!!

The highlight of our week was the Open Stage which was a mixture of intense preparation and spontaneous improvisation. Some of our students prepared dances while others preferred to sing. Among the participants was “a teacher”, i.e. a student who was teaching his peers how to dance Macarena. The IP Team also did not miss the opportunity to perform and they presented a funny adapted version of the world-famous Cinderella story.

First up were the group christened the “Snails” with their dramatic adaptation of the age-old fairytale “Cinderella”.  It was wonderful to see how brilliantly imaginative our students were!  They modernised the story, presenting a trainer as Cinderella’s glass slipper and playing James Blunt’s “Beautiful” when the prince met Cinderella at the ball “You’re beautiful, you’re beautiful, it’s true!” – “Ooooh, she’s so beautiful!”

This first act was an exciting taste of what was to follow throughout the rest of the evening – our students absolutely shone! It was their night and they really made the most of it! They had all worked very hard to prepare their pieces and this definitely showed on the night! They also did a fantastic job of involving other students (and often members of the IP activity team, too!) in their acts, especially the now famous (at least within the walls of IP centres!) Ding-A-Dong dance!

The “Penguins” were another group which showed their loyalty to IP with the “Gut Drauf” lines in their version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” – Snow White’s stepmother beseeched her daughter to return to her: “Please come back to me! What are you eating with those dwarves? Chips, cola – that’s not healthy! Even if you don’t come back home, do yourself a favour and live a good life – eat fruit!” Sadly for our Snow White, the apple her stepmother gave her provided her with vitamins she had denied herself for a long time by eating too much fast food with the dwarves, and she collapsed as a result of this. However, there was a happy ending to this tragic tale and Snow White was soon revived, much to the delight of her prince!

Another special mention has to be given to the students who prepared something by themselves. Alessio stunned his audience with his massive musical talent, delighting all his listeners with his renditions of not one but two very challenging pieces! Philipp offered a breath-taking Kung Fu demonstration with impressive high kicks that left everyone shaking in their boots and hoping they could stay in his good books!  “Project Llama” was equally entertaining – a small group of students had dressed themselves up in blankets and walked around town taking photos of each other doing different things, such as “Llama call llama”, “Llamas in Top Shop”, “Llama buy map”, “Llamas spat too much”, the latter being followed by “Police like llamas”. We all almost fell off our chairs, we were laughing so hard!

Die Jury, bestehend aus den IP-Crew-Mitgliedern Marie, Christin und Peter, hatte während des Abends die schwere Aufgabe den IP – Dance 2009 zu küren. Ausschlaggebend war der Song „Ding a Dong“ von der Gruppe Be4 zu der drei verschiedene Gruppen die Möglichkeit hatten ihr Können unter Beweis zu stellen.

Am Ende gewannen die Elephants mit 9 Punkten vor den Eagels und den Dogs.

Des Weiteren wurden verschiedene Arts & Crafts, welche im Laufe des Nachmittages kreiert wurden, vorgestellt. Unter ihnen waren Biene Maja mit Willi, Batman, die Tigerente und viele andere zu bestaunen.

Angesteckt von den faszinierenden Choreographien der Supervisoren ließen es sich die Center Manager und Center Administrator nicht nehmen eine eigene spontan improvisierte Choreographie aufzuführen.

Vergessen darf man natürlich nicht die tollen Moderationen des Abends in denen uns Romeo und Julia in der Weltsprache Esperanto ihr Leid klagten und eine ganz andere Form der Nachrichten mit einer Live-Schaltung zum Papst und einem Wetterbericht mal anders begeisterten.

Dies zum Anlass scheute sich das IP – Team nicht auf die Bühne zu gehen und Cinderella auf IP – Art & Weise  aufzuführen.
