Informationen über unsere Jugendsprachreisen nach Exeter, England

Mittlerweile gibt es sogar nur noch wenige Plätze für Exeter! Wer noch mit dem Gedanken spielt hier her zu kommen, sollte sich sehr bald entscheiden.

Exeter ist mit seinem schönen Universitätscampus der früher als Kloster diente, mit der Buchungsdichte ganz vorn dabei. Die alten Rundbögen, die große Grünfläche in der Mitte, umgeben und von dem roten Backsteingebäude der Bibliothek und der Unterkunft South Cloisters können einen jeden Schüler schon mal große Augen machen lassen. Harry Potter Feeling, und das wortwörtlich. Joanne K. Rowling studierte hier und ließ sich mit Sicherheit von der Schönheit der Uni und dem altenglischen Stadtkern der Innenstadt inspirieren. Vielleicht wohnst du ja bald in ihrem alten Zimmer?!

Exeter hat neben dem wunderbaren Campus noch eine Sporthalle und ein Schwimmbad auf dem Gelände. Diese werden von uns ca. einmal wöchentlich genutzt.

Vergiss nicht deinen Tennisschläger einzupacken, denn 2 Tennisplätze grenzen an die große Grünfläche. Wer das Tennis – Spezial dazugebucht hat, kommt sogar noch in den Genuss einen anderen Teil der Uni zu sehen. Das Hauptgebäude, wo die Tennisanlagen für die Cracks zu finden sind. Dieser Teil der Uni Exeter ist wirklich atemberaubend, denn von hier aus blickst du über die ganze Stadt und das ein oder andere royale Gefühl kann schon mal aufkommen.

Falls du aber einfach nur zum entspannen und Shoppen nach Exeter kommst, wirst du im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes auf deine Kosten kommen.

Eine nette Fußgängerzone mit sämtlichen Geschäften und Boutiquen warten darauf, von dir geplündert zu werden. Zur Entspannung kannst du dich danach auf die Wiese vor der mittelalterlichen Kathedrale legen. Hier treffen sich viele Menschen zum Plaudern, relaxen und Kaffe trinken. Wenn du noch tiefer auf Entdeckungstour gehen willst, hier ein Tipp: Versuche doch einmal die schmalste Straße Englands in Exeter zu finden!

Du siehst, wenn du noch zweifelst ob du lieber hierher oder woanders hin möchtest, deine Entscheidung sollte möglichst bald fallen, damit du noch einen Platz in Exeter bekommst!

An important part of the activities in the IP-Centre Bournemouth are the parties on Monday and Thursday. They are held in our meeting place, called “the IP Ocean”, which in fact is a huge college hall. Every party night is based on its own theme like e.g. “Black-and-White” or “Crossdressing”. Last Thursday, everyone was asked to come in  fancy dress. As you can see on the photos, different interpretations of the word “fancy” were allowed. The costumes varied from getting dressed up like an actress or actor on an award show to self-made costumes that reminded you of German carnaval.

The whole Thursday afternoon the Arts Workshop prepared and decorated the Ocean for this highlight in the evening.  Healthy drinks and snacks like cucumber sticks were made, the names of all countries the students came from were cut out in their national colours. The information boards were hidden with the help of glittering cloth. Some students also used the provided material to build and create their own costumes.

Then it was time for preparing and dressing yourself. At the entrance every student had to write his or her name on a sheet of paper. The staff members collected all names in bowls and mixed them.  The reason for this was the Blind-Date-Game that was played later on. Every boy had to pick out a girl’s name and search for her in the whole party crowd. After screaming names and asking every girl for her name nearly every couple found each other and started talking.

After dancing to songs from Lady Gaga, David Guetta and of course all together to the IP-song “I gotta feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, it was Limbo-time. A huge queue formed and tried to walk under the lower and lower placed bar. When the bar reached the height of the hips, a lot of students fell down. The winner soon became obvious: the 12year old Jesus from Spain.

Thereafter  the IP- Queen and the IP-King were crowned. The jury, i.e. the members of staff, picked out the three couples with the fanciest dresses. They had to walk on a catwalk through the whole “Ocean”. The winner was chosen with the help of the noise of the audience. The proud King was the Spanish group leader Jorge, who was dressed as an Arabian. To his side the proud Queen stood grinning dressed in a self-made Spongebob costume.

Afterwards everyone was dancing until it was time to go back to their rooms.  As the atmosphere of this party was really cheerful, we are all looking forward to our next party, which will be themed “Caribbean-Slam”.

Last weekend I went to Brighton, the biggest and most famous seaside resort of the United Kingdom. After a guided tour and a short stay in the Brighton Museum, my friends and I went shopping and we had a rollercoaster ride on the pier.

The second week unfortunately even passed faster than the first. On Tuesday evening, the IP Team organized exhausting Beach Olympics on the beach. As we were really enthusiastic about it even the upcoming darkness could not stop us from competing with each other.

Wednesday was also fantastic as we had the opportunity to leave Bournemouth accompanied by IP Staff and we could go shopping to Poole. To finish a glorious day, there was a nice event in the Town Centre with candles everywhere that formed a shape as for example a bridge or the Union Jack after being lit.

Now it is already Friday and I am very sad about having to leave this nice town and all my new friends. Fortunately, at the moment Bournemouth is hosting a big Air festival which I am going to watch today and I will finish my stay with something special: Ice Skating in summer. Finally, I would like to thank the amazing IP Team for organizing all the nice events and workshops and maybe we will meet each other again – next year?!

The Henna Tattoo workshop is definitely one to be mentioned. The students were eager for a temporary body art experience and as usual our creative IP team did not fail to perform, the students were filled with smiles and excited about their new and cool tattoos.

On Thursday, we attended the Bournemouth air festival, which is the UK’s biggest free aviation Festival. We enjoyed the breath – taking aviation action! It surely was exciting to witness the awesome air displays, attraction and fantastic evening entertainment as well as the firework world record attempt.

How else to end an amazing week than to enjoy a group Ice skating activity? The week was amazing and now we can’t wait to get to know what the IP team has prepared for next week.

Last week in Exmouth

The last days in Exmouth have been very active with many different workshops and exciting evening activities. Having started with a Twister night on Saturday the students already got an initial feeling for the active upcoming activities.
One highlight was the Cluedo night. Turning the board game into a real life play, the students had to find out who murdered Taz by asking questions to the team and combining their answers.

Trips to Exeter, Dartmoor and Torquay gave the students the possibility to discover more of Devon and enjoy the beautiful landscape and the shopping facilities.

With two dancing workshops in Jump Style and Rock ‘n’ Roll the students were well prepared for being on stage during the Bad Taste Farewell Party on Thursday. Being dressed in garbage bags and wearing socks in Flip Flops the students enjoyed the night with the X-Mouth picture frame, a catwalk and limbo dance. Finally, everyone could remember the last two weeks during the picture slideshow.

Girls sauntered in casually in jeans, trainers and baseball caps; their male counterparts tottered in in skirts, blouses, perfume and outlandishly bright high heels. In some cases, it was incredibly difficult to determine who was male and who female! Suspiciously, these transformations also seemed to be linked to the sudden and otherwise mysterious spiriting away of more than a few oranges and a surprisingly large amount of toilet paper from the boys’ toilets. It would be safe to say that all the students got very into their new genders – and the party, of course!
They danced the night away to a slightly altered playlist including brilliant classics such as Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” and James Blunt’s “Beautiful”. The beauty of the music spun its enchanting web over all the dancers present and led to the formation of some fun new “couples” for the evening.
It was simply amazing to witness the closeness of friendships between students of different nationalities and the easy way in which they all interacted with one another. We hope that the students who have now returned home will stay in touch with one another for some time to come and that all our new students will enjoy their stay just as much as their predecessors!
